DRISHYA® 2018 – Annual Talent Show and Competitions

Non-Classical Singing Competition Classifications and Rules

 

Categories(Solo Non Classical)

Indian Non-classical (light, folk, filmy, album, semi-classical, fusion song of any Indian language)

  • Adult  (18 years or older)
  • Youth  (14 to 17 years)
  • Junior (11 years to 13 years)
  • Sub-Junior (8 years to 10 years)
  • Kinder (5 years to 7 years)

Western Non-classical (English or any western language songs)

  • Adult  (18 years or older)
  • Youth  (14 to 17 years)
  • Junior (11 years to 13 years)
  • Sub-Junior (8 years to 10 years)
  • Kinder (5 years to 7 years)

Performance Time

  1. Indian Non-classical: The performance must be between 3 to 6 minutes in all categories.
  2. Western Non-classical: The performance must be between 2.5  to 5 minutes in all categories.

Rules

  1. An individual may only perform once in a single competitive category.
  2. Karaoke should be used in the non-classical category.
  3. Complete karaoke track in the form of MP3 file mandatory to qualify for participation
  4. Competition is purely vocal and performance shall not accompanied by an instrument to compliment their singing.
  5.  Participants must be within the age range as of January 1, 2018.
  6. Any segment with only one entry will be cancelled. The participant can opt to compete in a higher age category if possible.
  7. If there are too many entries in any category NEMA reserves the right to conduct a semi-final round.
  8. NEMA reserves the right to request proof of age, to verify the age of the participant if needed.
  9. No prompting/coaching is allowed from the audience to the participant. The participant will be promptly disqualified if it comes to notice.
  10. Participants will not be allowed to carry or use written lyrics or any supporting devices that would assist him/her perform better on stage. Violating this could result in disqualification.
  11. Participants are allowed only the introduction of the song, nothing else. Violating this could result in disqualification.
  12. The song should be sent to drishya@nemausa.org in mp3 format when requested. This will be strictly enforced and failing to do so will disqualify the item
  13. NEMA won’t be providing any instrumental support for the singers
  14. Any karaoke exceeding the maximum allotted time will be shortened to the maximum time.
  15. Judges decisions are final. Participants are not to contact the judges to get the feedback on the performances.

Judging

The scoring is as follows:

    Keeping the Pitch (Sruthi) 35 pts
   Singing with rhythm 35 pts
    Presentation 30 pts

 

 Definitions of Judging Format

  1. Keeping the Pitch (Sruthi) (35% of total score)
    1. Points given based on ability to maintain correct pitch (sruthi) through out the song
  2. Singing with rhythm (35% of Total Score)
    1. Points given based on the Participant’s ability to maintain rhythm throughout the song.
  3. Presentation (30% of Total Score)
    1. Pronunciation of words (Diction)
    2. Recovery from mistakes
    3. Projection to audience; feeling/look of enjoyment
    4. Total stage presence

 Penalty

If the participant is not ready to perform when his/her number is called, a penalty of  5 points will be applied to the  score

Prizes

The winners are chosen as follows:

  1. If only one participant is registered for a category, no competition will be held and they can choose to compete in a higher age category.
  2. For a category with two or more participants, a first place winner is declared.
  3. For a category with three or more participants, a first place and second place winners are declared.
  4. For a category with four or more participants, a first place, second place and third place winners are declared.

Participant Certificates will be awarded to all participants on the day of the event.

Trophies/Medals and winner certificates will be awarded to all winners on the day of the event
