WHY are we making this change?

• • Single-use plastic use is creating havoc in our oceans and landfills.
  • A plastic utensil will take 450 years to decompose in a landfill.
  • 28% of our trash is waste that can be composted.
  • organic waste in landfills creates harmful methane since composting takes place without oxygen there.
  • There will be a more plastic waste in our oceans than the fish by 2050.

  • Think about how much trash is left behind after one of our events..........!!!

WHAT are we doing differently?

• • NEMA is pledging to reduce the waste it sends to landfills after our events.
  • This is our small way of helping the planet we live in.
  • All the waste from our food serving will either be composted or recycled.

HOW are we doing it?

• • NEMA has signed up with a commercial composter to pick up all compostable trash after the event.
  • We will be using compostable plates, utensils, napkins, and gloves for serving food.
  • All the water gallons, aluminum trays, etc. will be collected by NEMA volunteers to recycle with their town's recycling program.

HOW you can help?

• • At the NEMA event, please watch out for the signs directing you to deposit the trash at the correct containers. Please ask our volunteers if you need any information.
  • Look for ways to throw zero waste parties at home and office and get it composted with a commercial facility. The trash in landfills creates harmful methane gas.
  • Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Compost!!!
